As we, Second Baptist Church, proclaim through the Word of God that Jesus is the answer to all of our needs, our goal is to:
Seek the unsaved, the unloved, and the unchurched Evangelism
Educate and spiritually empower people to walk in victory Education
Celebrate life and every gift from God Worship
Obey and practice the Word of God Word
Nurture and encourage one another in Christ Compassion
Disciple both men, women, and children in their spiritual journey Discipleship
Our Vision
The purpose of Second Baptist/Purpose of Life Ministry is to glorify God by training believers in their relationship with Him, encouraging unity among believers through worship, ministry and love; and by equipping believers to go to all people with the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ so they in turn will do the same.
Our Pastor, David W. Greene, Sr., M. Div.
David W. Greene, Sr. is a dedicated husband, father, son, pastor and friend on a personal level; as well as a strong determined humanitarian, civic leader, educator, an advocate of youth and a drum major for social justice. Pastor Greene has been married for over 27 years to his lovely wife, Glenda P. Greene and is the proud father of two children, Ashley Nichole and David Jr. His proud parents reside in Cave City, KY.
Pastor Greene has been the dynamic Senior Pastor of Purpose of Life Ministries here in Indianapolis for 16 years; resulting in a congregational growth from approximately 350 to almost 1300. Pastor Greene has an unconventional approach to ministry and ministers to the unchurched, unloved and unsaved continuously. Under his leadership he has established over 50 ministries to support his humanitarian/civic beliefs based on the Word of God.
Pastor Greene is an educator and a strong supporter of education, not just by mouth, but as demonstrated by his achievements in education. He graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky with degrees in math and computer science; a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Crossroads Bible College (formerly Baptist Bible College) degree in religious studies; a Masters of Divinity degree from Anderson University. At Purpose of Life Ministries, Pastor Greene, has instituted a number of classes to encourage and nurture the congregation in religious education and constantly promotes higher education and excellence. Many lives have been changed and improved as a result.
Pastor Greene’s civic involvement is extensive and in many instances mirrors his passion for youth and social justice. Pastor Greene is an active board member of the following organizations:
• Indiana Faith Based Advisory Council
• Vice-President of American Red Cross of Central Indiana
• President of Our Kids of Indiana (OK Program) Board
• Neighbors Organized to Assist Humanity (NOAH)
• Success By Six - United Way Agency
• President of Marion County Juvenile Detention Advisory Council
Pastor Greene initiated his congregation’s involvement in many efforts within the city also.
• Indianapolis’ Faith Based Patrol (Foot Patrol Liaison w/IMPD for Black Expo & Circle City Classic)
• Indiana’s Access To Recovery program (Adult Re-entry program)
• Marion County’s Evening Reporting Center program (Juvenile offenders)
• CICOA (Seniors) Meal Site
• American Cancer Society - Cancer Prevention Study-3
